Is a heat pump right for my home?
Heat pumps suit a lot of homes, but not every one. The heat loss survey tells us room by room, and we'll tell you straight.
- A good fit
It holds its heat
Heat pumps work best in homes with decent insulation, because they warm gently and steadily rather than in bursts.
- A good fit
There's room outside
Air source needs space for the outdoor unit. Ground source needs land for the pipes, or room for a borehole.
About ground source - A good fit
You're on oil or LPG
Homes with no mains gas get the biggest grant: up to £9,000 until March 2027.
- Worth knowing
Radiators and hot water
Some rooms may need bigger radiators or underfloor heating, and a hot water cylinder is usually needed. We'll show you exactly what, before you commit.

FAQs
Common questions
Alto Energy runs a scheme that lets trained installers fit heat pumps under its MCS certification. We do the installation; Alto designs the system to MCS standards, commissions it and takes responsibility for it from commissioning. You get a fully MCS-certified system, which is what the government grant needs.
